Taking heavy inspiration from myths and legends, South Carolina-based Quest Brewing Company challenges their customers to find their quest. The products have names like Golden Fleece Belgian Pale ale and Kaldi Coffee Stout. Each year-round product features a wrap-around illustration which recounts each legend as you turn the can.

Packaging
Your premium product requires premium packaging to sell at the right price point. For Birdman's: a complete packaging update supported by a custom oil painting by nature painter Dave Wade connects with those who value the outdoor lifestyle, and are willing to pay for quality.
Birdman's Fine Pheasant Fare is a family business, providing premium pheasant jerky and other pheasant-based products year-round.

A simple mark or logotype should quickly convey the key aspects of a brand identity: personality and tone-of-voice, style or industry.

RedDot Brewhouse in Singapore is one of the premier specialty craft beer producers in the region. Putting the customer's focus on the brand name was a day-1 goal (hence the gigantic red dot!), but developing a brand reminiscent of 1940s American sentiment grew organically out of the process.

As a co-founder with John Chipouras and Grant Warman, I developed every component of the TabSprint brand, from visual aesthetic to product design, advertising to iconography.
In late 2013 TabSprint ran a single-market experiment for ABInBev, testing the efficacy of the app in regards to customer influence. With straightforward information architecture principles (or invisible "nudges") we were able to influence customers to the tune of a 14% sales uplift across the market over the course of the experiment. The sales data were vetted by a third party.

Only in Oakland Park, Florida will you find beer flavors as brash as peanut butter and jelly, blueberry cobbler, or chocolate milk. Funky Buddha delivers the most outrageous flavors, and needed a packaging system to match. Ruben's bold illustration style combined with our unique label shape and color scheme scream off the shelf.

Naming
The Redpoint Outfitters brand is direct and textural. It has two personalities: aspirational, and cheeky. The aspiration side of the brand dominates the visuals, with alpine imagery and bold red stripes, implying the "earning of stripes" by summiting landmark runs. The cheeky half of the personality is secondary, showing up in neon colors and featuring lingo that is expressly climber.

Based in Wake Forest, North Carolina, White Street Brewing Co. is dedicated to old-world craftsmanship. Their identity focuses on a blend of post-war nostalgia and the feeling of Smalltown, USA. Custom lettered medallions adorn each year-round product, and the color scheme is inverted for speciality series. The lantern is used throughout the brand (logo, packaging, tap handles) to inspire the idea of a main street, warm and inviting.

The three Southern California TAPS locations have been serving up memorable ambiance and GABF award-winning beer since 1999. TAPS has been a client of The Brandit for nearly that long, during which time I designed an updated logo, website, and branding suite for their beer products.

Josh Goraya is the cutting edge of Indian fashion. Known for impeccable tailoring and sharp shapes, Goraya's silhouettes are all angle, no curve. He takes inspiration from the metaphor of the men's safety razor: shaving is something generally associated with women, but the design of this particular object is iconically masculine.
I created an icon for use across all of his materials, and a custom typeface that looks as if it has been clipped with as clean a cut as his collars.

Admit it, you came to this project for the really cool illustration on the front page. I spearheaded a superhero illustration project at the agency, but more on that in a second...
During my time as Senior Designer at Nickelfish from 2010 through 2011, I generated the majority of the creative work that the studio produced. Specializing in web solutions for large enterprises, I worked on everything from apps for the City of New York to interfaces for online software managing pay-per-click advertising spends for clients with seven figure budgets.
I even designed the website they use to this day.

Custom lettering is one of my favorite project types to work on. This is a small sample of this work, focused primarily on logotypes.

App Design: 2010
Before responsive web had grabbed the minds of international mega-brands, there was just time-consuming, pixel-pushing app design. Each version had to meet the specific features (and limitations) of every available device, from the iPhone 3 to the Blackberry to the Samsung Galaxy.
This universal app for desktop and all touchscreen devices was a 6 month-long project, involving dozens of developers and thousands of work hours. The rewards program we developed included digital "trophies," the illustrations for which earned a Silver Art Directors Club of NJ Award in illustration.

Originally a quartet named Josh Berman and The Icee Date Band (an off-hand moniker referencing their only hyper-regional micro-hit: The Icee Date Song) the small group quickly expanded to other friends and family, as they plied their brand of nugrass for audiences young and old across the plains of Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
The Red River Connection self-published two albums including an LP of originals and revisited standards: Fire in the Valley. Though only practicing from 2005 – 2010, that season of life and group of friends will forever be in my heart, making folk into family.
