Friendly Press for King's Sandwich Shop

At the corner of Foster and Geer Streets just north of downtown Durham, North Carolina, you will find an unassuming cinderblock shed with red awnings and a Coca-Cola sign at least 50 years old. This is King's Sandwich Shop. Approaching its 75th anniversary, News & Observer ran an article on their latest venture: King's Mobile.

I was fortunate enough to meet the owner of King's on one of my many walks to get a shrimp po boy with tater tots and fried okra, ( health shop they are not) and began working with him on a rebrand soon after. In addition to a new logo and identity system, a primary focus was on rolling out the #kingstream: a renovated airstream trailer that functions as the second location, as well as a catering vehicle and special event-mobile.

As the new work is rolled out I'll be updating the portfolio. For now, if you're ever in Durham, be sure to swing by and try a Cack-A-Lacky King or spicy black bean veggie burger.

Santa Maria Brewing Company | Brand Director

The radio silence around here the last few months has good cause. Primarily, Olivia had our second child. Very secondarily, most of my hours were poured into a single project. This is rare for me, but the results so far are entirely worth it.

Last year I flew out to meet with Byron Moles, the owner and president of Santa Maria Brewing Co, in Santa Maria, California. We shared a vision for what the brewery could become, and I decided to contribute my experience in the beer industry to growing this brand. Here is a taste of what we've been working on.

Working with Byron and the team is very rewarding, and I'm excited to see this brand continue to grow. Hopefully cans are on the horizon for 2017, but next up: the Santa Maria website.

A Wild Emmalynn Appeared!

Here's a quick update on the Emmalynn post from the end of August.

Last week I was down in Durham, NC and spotted all four year-round White Street packages the way they were meant to be: in a row. This shelf is courtesy of Weaver Street Market in Carborro.

Joshua Berman Art Directs #1 and #5 on the 2015 Top 10 Craft Beer Sales List

Last week CraftBeer.com posted an article about Information Resources, Inc.'s 2015 craft brewery sales data. According to their research, Funky Buddha Brewery of Oakland Park, Florida came in first with nearly $1 million in sales in 2015, and Wake Forest, NC-based White Street Brewing Co. came in fifth, with nearly a quarter-million in sales. I am very excited because I had the honor of art directing these two breweries over the last few years.

From the article...

“Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) has released its results of the “Top 10 New BA Craft Vendors Based on Dollar Sales” for 2015 and it places Florida-based Funky Buddha Brewery as the front runner. Following close behind in 5th place is North Carolina’s White Street Brewing Company. Of the top five breweries, these two have something in common—The Brandit.”

During my time at The Brandit I worked directly with both of these clients, developing all of the packaging for White Street Brewing Company and creating the brand-level art direction for all of Funky Buddha's products. Dan Bowman, principal of The Brandit, was the creative director on both of these clients. While I personally created the lettering for White Street, I worked with Rubens Scarelli to develop the illustrations for each of Funky Buddha's packages.

Triangle Business News Also posted a bit on it here: http://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2016/08/25/triangle-brewery-lands-on-top-10-of-craft-vendors.html
